Over 40s - South-East Inter-Counties Water Polo Tournament
30th November 2016
Kent Over 40s finished third in a highly competitive South-East Inter-Counties Water Polo Tournament at Basingstoke.
Having slipped to a disappointing 4-1 loss to Essex in their opening encounter, missing a host of chances to gain command of the tie, the Kent (slightly) oldies then showed their superior fitness by then beating Herts 3-2. Forced to play consecutive games without a break, Kent were always in control of the game, many even refusing the aid of performance-enhancing oxygen and drugs.
But it was again poor finishing and fortunate goalkeeping that undid Kent’s hopes in the tournament decider against hosts Hampshire, a side packed with international talent, who slowly drew clear in a brutal final match to win 4-1.
The Kent team was: Paul Ashenden (gk), Amos Burnett, Dave Wilson, Jim Burch, Jon Exall, Mark Freed, Matty Fagg, Matt Garner, Ruby Burnett, Steve Bray, Tom Howes and Chris-A. Ringer.
