Barbara Upton - Sad News

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Barbara Upton at the end of July after a very long illness. Despite the effects of her illness and treatment, she was always so upbeat with such a positive outlook.

Like so many of us, she got involved through her children, with her four daughters swimming with Mote Park SC, and getting more involved as they progressed through the club. Realising being involved was far more interesting than sitting on the poolside, she qualified as a timekeeper, Judge 1 and Judge 2, and finally became Chair of the club.

With the opening of the new Larkfield Leisure Centre, she was integral to the move from Maidstone Leisure Centre and the change of name to Larkfield SC. Never one to sit on the side-lines, she also became Hon Secretary for Medway ASA, the first President of Larkfield SC and then took on the role of Chair as well, both of which she held up to her death.

Barbara had also been an active member of the KCASA Management Committee since 2001 and County President in 2011, and still had enough time and energy to be in charge of the county kit right up until the end of last year.

Her funeral details are as follows:

• Vinters Park Crematorium, Bearsted Road, Maidstone ME14 5LG
