Officiating Opportunities within Deaf-friendly swimming - 19 March & 1 May

1st May 2016

We have been advised of the following opportunities to officiate at two deaf-friendly events:

University of Nottingham (NG7 2RD)

Saturday 19th March 2016

11:00am – 1:15 pm

Streatham Leisure Centre (SW16 6HX)

Sunday 1st May 2016

12:15pm – 2:15pm

Swimming is one of the sports deaf young people most want to take part in, however the natural distance between a swimmer and a coach, the acoustics of a swimming pool and the need to remove hearing aids before entering a pool mean swimming can pose a number of challenges and additional barriers for deaf young people. These events are an exciting opportunity for deaf swimmers to meet, have fun and compete together in a fun and friendly environment.

NDCS is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to fulfil a number of technical official roles:

  • ·Referee
  • ·Starter
  • ·Judges
  • ·Chief Time Keeper
  • ·Time Keepers
  • ·Results Recorder

Non-technical volunteer roles are also available. Communication support will be provided throughout the event by NDCS volunteers so previous experience of working with deaf young people or British Sign Language skills are not necessary. Agreed travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Posters for the two events are attached.

To express your interest or for further information please contact Ashleigh Scott, Swimming Development Officer; swimming@ndcs.org.uk 0121 234 6225.
