KCASA Skills Championships 2017

30th May 2017

This was the inaugural Kent Skills Diving Championships and attracted 93 entries from nine diving clubs across the SE Region. The competition also doubled as a National points qualifier for the ASA National Skills to be held in the Olympic pool in July.

In the girls 8 & 9 year age group Corin Burrows (Crystal Palace) won by 36 points over Megan Thorpe of Southampton. Kent silver medal went to Maidstone diver Karis Gous. Four Kent divers qualified for Nationals.

In the boys 8 & 9 competition there were just two entries with Ethan Pearce (Southampton) taking gold from Crystal Palace diver Zack Robinson.

The girls 10/11 years was a very large entry with the top six places going to Crystal Palace with Zara Turkel winning gold with a 17 point margin. Fifteen divers scored their National points. In the Boys 10/11 years event Crystal Palace again won and Sam Harvey of Maidstone took silver behind Toby Morrison-Waller. The competition was of a high standard with seven divers qualifying for Nationals.

The girls 12/13 years had the largest entry with 22 divers. Scarlet Winter from Guilford finished 6 points ahead of Palace’s Brooke Ryan with 3 Kent divers qualifying their National points. In the Boys competition Buddy Knott (Maidstone) won the Kent title and scored his points too.

The Final event was the 14 to 16 age group. Lauren Aitken (Crystal Palace) and Elliot Jones (Tunbridge Wells) won their first Kent titles and again seven more divers qualified for National Skills.

In total of the 93 entries, 49 scored their National points and 54% of those entered it was their first County diving competition.

Thank you to the clubs for supporting the Kent Championships and a big thank you to all the volunteers and officials for their hard work on the day. Thank’s also to KCASA President John Burdett who gave up six hours on the Sunday to hand out the medals and who is now is more of an expert on diving!
